CPD Design Research Center

The opening of PPGDesign marked the inauguration of the Center for Design Research, which, with its actions and projects, intends to become a benchmark space for design research in Brazil. Created to bring together the efforts and results of the Program, this CPDesign also houses the Center for Documentation and Reference in Design, which is located at the Morumbi Campus. The center preserves the last sixteen-year academic production, with over 360 projects (theoretical researches, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, video clips, animations, games, websites), including interdisciplinary projects and undergraduate and graduate term papers, available for consultation.

In addition to this material, there are texts and videos from events, lectures and meetings of SINEPED (International and National Seminars for Studies and Research in Design). This collection is important for the design field, since it gathers information and materials that store that production in a single place; serving as a reference to the continuity, development and further development of new studies, researches and projects.

To develop and systematize the graduate program products, the center increased the number of laboratories, from three, available in 2013, to seven in 2014: SENSE Design Lab – Laboratory for Design and Neuroscience; LAPODE – Laboratory for Design Poetics; MeMuLab – Museum and Memory Laboratory; LADARQ – Laboratory for Project Conception in Design and Architecture; ENTRELab – Laboratory for Practices and Processes between Body and Dressing; GRAFLab – Laboratory for Research and Experimentation in Graphic Language Transmedia Design Lab – Laboratory for Transmedia Creation and Development, as follows:

Sense Design Lab – Laboratory for Design and Neuroscience

It subsidizes the development of projects in the Design-Neuroscience interface, with regard to mapping, monitoring, handling and processing neurophysiological data, with a view to the development of physical, digital, electromechanical and interactive products and systems, involving wearable, mobile and audiovisual technologies.

LAPODE – Laboratório de Poéticas no Design

It provides imagery and graphic resources to the development of projects in the aesthetic and poetic dimensions of Design, contributing to its distinctive creation processes, methodologies and cross relationships with different areas of knowledge.

MeMuLab – Museum and Memory Laboratory

It supports the implementation of projects involving data display and database development, especially in the context of history and memory of museums, collections, archives and curatorial projects that work on the interface of contemporary art and the design field.

LADARQ – Laboratory for Project Conception in Design and Architecture

It provides resources for the development of research focused on the early stages of project conception in the design-architecture interface. It contributes to design and architecture projects aimed at design graphic analysis.

ENTRELab – Laboratory for Practices and Processes between Body and Dressing

It contributes to the development of projects focused on the interaction between individuals and clothes and the relationships that arise between body, dressing and spatiality in the individual and collective dimensions. It supports technologies and material elements that produce the Design of wearables and the practices that enhance creation and subjectivation processes.

GRAFLab – Laboratory for Research and Experimentation in Graphic Language

It contributes to the development of projects that use the graphic language in products, productions and design actions bordering artistic productions, in the context of material and digital productions. It supports registration of projection processes and products related to the graphic language.

Transmedia Design Lab – Laboratory for Transmedia Creation and Development

It contributes to the design applied to video game, animation and audiovisual languages as convergent forms of expression in transmedia systems. It supports the development of active methodologies for multi-platform and multi-device projects, being they digital and/or analog, as well as creative technology and its many fields of application.
