Research groups

GROUPS REGISTERED IN THE CNPq RESEARCH GROUPS AND LINKED TO THE CENTER FOR DESIGN RESEARCH

DESIGN, ART AND EDUCATION

Leader: Anna Mae Tavares Bastos Barbosa, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It focuses on the history of teaching/learning Art, Design and Visual Cultures. Its purpose is the discovery, discussion and interpretation of the ways in which we teach and learn in various times – at schools and non-formal environments, self-training or in the community – Art and its variables, Design and its commitment to everyday life, fashion and its versatility and advertising and its dependence on creativity.

DESIGN AND BODY: DESIGN APPROACHES TO ART AND FASHION

Leader: Agda Regina de Carvalho, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It investigates the languages and intersections between design and body, based on the study of the creation processes, projects and discourses from the articulation of art and fashion. It studies poetic reverberations and hybridization of its procedures, objects and approaches. It proposes reflections on aesthetic, cultural and technological aspects, which are interwoven in the events and practices of these fields, and researches the different perception modes of the material elements in these contexts.

DESIGN, ART AND FASHION: CONTEMPORARY CONNECTIONS

Leader: Professor Cristiane Ferreira Mesquita, Ph.D.
Deputy Leader: Rosane Preciosa Sequeira, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of PPGDesign of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It investigates interrelationships and dialogs between design, art and contemporary fashion, examining the encounters between these spheres of creation and production. The studies converge to the systematization of knowledge around those interfaces, in some of its conceptual, cultural, technological and aesthetic aspects, with emphasis on the transversalities that permeate contemporary design, its creation processes, its poetics and its results.

ART AND DESIGN POETICS

Leader: Gilbertto Prado, Ph.D.

The purpose of the Art and Design Poetics Group is to discuss and reflect on the new context of the practices of design and artistic multimedia, its transformations and hybridization. The context is presented by the group of designers, artists and selected works essentially in the recent period, from the 1990’s to the present day. The intention is to generate projects/processes in the field of study, which is in full transformation in which the so-called new technologies in hybridization, with the more conventional ways of implementing them, cause changes in the processes of artistic and design creation, expanding the potential in the implementation of projects and approaches among these fields of knowledge. The Group consists of teachers, artists, designers, researchers and students, and its composition changes depending on the projects proposed and/or under discussion.
Subsequent analyses, based on all the research conducted, underlie the implementation and development of projects, as well as its reflection. The purpose of this research mentorship program is to promote national and international cooperation, contribute to the implementation of projects and dissemination of knowledge through exhibitions, books, chapters of books, magazines, websites, catalogs, event curatorial projects, training of researchers through engagement in the project and supervision of graduate, undergraduate and research mentorship program students.

CONTEMPORARY GRAPHIC DESIGN: LANGUAGES AND INTERFACES

Leader: Gisela Belluzzo de Campos, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It concentrates on studies and research on graphic and visual productions in Design created by manual, mechanical, digital and hybrid processes in different spaces, formats and means with emphasis on contemporary productions. It focuses on the accomplishments of graphic design in its aesthetic, technological, communicational, methodological and procedural aspects as well as the interfaces with fashion, architecture, visual arts, journalism, movies, music and theater.

EXHIBITION DESIGN: ART, FASHION AND PHOTOGRAPHY PRACTICES

Leader: Mirtes Cristina Marins de Oliveira, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It develops critical studies that reflect on the relationships between exhibition forms and their concept. It devises experimental curatorial projects that propose to go beyond hegemonic curatorial concepts and forms. It develops studies on the methodology for understanding photographic language. It reviews some narratives established by the History of Art and Design (traditional, linear, Eurocentric or American perspective) about exhibitions and Brazilian production from the 1940’s to contemporary times.

DESIGN, ART AND MEMORY: CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVES

Leader: Priscila Almeida Cunha Arantes, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It investigates and analyzes the articulations between design and contemporary art as well as investigates creative processes and procedures in the context of design and contemporary art incorporating themes and/or devices related to the memory, passage of time, record, database, file and poetics of the testimony. It brings together and investigates discursive, critical and creative practices around memory, real time, as well as the transient nature within the context of contemporary and digital culture. The studies also converge to curatorial and museological projects analysis – on and off line – of contemporary art and design contributing to critical and constructive reflection on the history of art and design.

DESIGN: CREATION, LANGUAGE AND TECHNOLOGY

Leader: Rachel Zuanon, Ph.D.

The group is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It brings together conceptual, methodological critical, theoretical and practical studies and research on projects and products in design, developed through complex systems of information and communication technologies. It deals with the characteristics, elements, methods and processes of design creation, production, dissemination, reception and interaction.

GAME DESIGN: APPLICATIONS FOR A CHANGING WORLD

Leader: Delmar Galisi Domingues, Ph.D.

This project studies the potential of games as support for other social, cultural and productive purposes, thus exceeding its role as a medium traditionally intended for entertainment and leisure. It investigates applications that use the language of games as tools for teaching and learning, training, health, art and scientific exploration. That is, games are understood within a context of transdisciplinary exploration that redefines and transforms them as they interact with several other areas. This project proposes to discuss how games, as well as physical games and even related digital media, can contribute to building a more sustainable, economically viable and culturally more tolerant word.

DESIGN, ENTERTAINMENT AND EDUCATION: INTERFACES AND PERSPECTIVES

Leader: Sérgio Nesteriuk, Ph.D.

The Research Group Design, Entertainment and Education: Interfaces and Perspectives is part of the Center for Design Research of Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM). It investigates Design technologies, interfaces, lines of force and forms in the audiovisual, games, animations and transmedia as well as their expanded fields and perspectives on aesthetic, rhetoric, cultural and social issues. It brings together studies, researches, projects and practices in the fields of entertainment, education, simulation and edutainment, which can include issues that affect sustainability, social responsibility and accessibility, and also encourage interdisciplinary approaches and practices.
