In this year of 2020, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the formalization of the Design at Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM) . Created on nineteen ninety , the Fashion Course was the second in the area in the country and has since then had a successful trajectory. In that same decade, the Digital Design Course (formerly known as Artistic Education with an emphasis on Multimedia) emerges and, shortly after, the Graphic Design course. In 2003, the Game Design Course was launched, which, like Digital Design, was a pioneer in the country and one of the first worldwide. In this issue of DATJournal, in addition to the texts regularly selected by the office, we bring two dossiers . In the first one, which has guest editors Mirtes Marins de Oliveira and Priscila Arantes, the theme presented is curatorship, exhibition design and museum. The second dossier has guest editors Daniela Garrossini and Tiago Pontes e Silva and presents design research in the Brazilian Midwest, with a focus on the Graduate Program in Design at the University of Brasília. This second dossier marks the beginning of the DATJournal special series on Graduate Programs in Design in Brazil, which will be invited to present their trajectories, characteristics and strength lines. With this initiative, we intend, more than mapping and celebrating the strength and diversity of these Programs, to stimulate the exchange between the Graduate Programs in Design in Brazil.

v. 4 n. 2 (2019): Design and Activism

The criticism of modernist historical projects with a European / North American matrix led, since the 1960s, to a review of their assumptions and results from countercultural perspectives and as a reconfiguration of the political force field from the new configurations of Western capitalism. With the processes of globalization and geopolitical readjustments, the flow of permanent displacements since the end of the Cold War, new possibilities for reading and operating e and art and
design have emerged favoring criticism and transformation of established reality.

Within this scope, researchers, designers, artists, activists were invited who, inside and outside the university, produce and reflect in the wide territory of art, design and activism. His reports offer a dense and also panoramic drawing of possibilities in approaching the proposed theme and, above all, allow the reader to get closer to what the dossier’s publishers want: to point to transformative forms and committed to the social reality that art and design can take. The proposals of authors and research that address or dialogue with American, Latin American and Brazilian practices were privileged, as it is clear, thanks to the contributions received, the incorporation of the educational debate in confluence with the thematic fields indicated in the dossier.
